Monumental Mexican Modernist Wall Unit in Solid Mahogany and Goatskin
For your consideration a large wall unit. Custom made in Mexico City, circa the 1950s. Cabinets are made of solid mahogany. The doors are made of plywood with mahogany veneer. Uprights have a sculptural shape, made of solid mahogany, wrapped in goatskin. Cabinets are connected with brass hardware to the uprights. Custom sabots in solid brass at the bottom, and adjustable stainless steel at the top. One of the doors has a hand-painted panel with an Asian inspired theme. Chest of drawers has six pulls in brass and malachite with the oval stamp "Pepe Mendoza, 1958".
Dimensions: 29 1/2" D x 98" tall x 156" L.
Wood has been restored. Goatskin & brass has the original patina. Stainless steel tensors are new. Pepe Mendoza pulls replaced the original pulls (ghost shadow from original pulls can be seen). Refer to images.
