Description

For your consideration, a vintage chinese wicker elephant box / basket from the mid-20th century.
This piece is characterized by the complex “Shanghai weave” technique, which features tightly hand-woven natural wicker and rattan over a wood frame.

It is heavily associated with mid-century Palm Beach Regency, boho-chic, and Hollywood Regency interior aesthetics. Many similar stylistic variations from this era are attributed to or inspired by the renowned Mexican artist Mario Lopez Torres.
The head or trunk section typically acts as a removable lid, allowing the hollow body of the elephant to be used as a decorative storage box, chest, or planter

Dimensions: 20H x 19 D x 7 W.
