It is traditionally carved from a single log of hardwood.
The drumhead is typically made from rawhide, often goatskin.
The name “djembe” comes from a Bambara saying that translates to “everyone gather together in peace”.
It produces a diverse range of sounds, from dry, high-pitched tones to deep, booming bass.
