Description
For your consideration, a Mid-century decorative silver plate or tray, designed and manufactured by the renowned Los Castillo workshop in Taxco, Mexico. The central design features a figure of an Aztec warrior or chief, characteristic of the Aztec Feather style, which often includes mixed metal inlays or lacquered feathers.
The workshop was founded in 1939 by brothers Antonio, Jorge, Miguel, and Justo Castillo, who became famous for their innovative gold smithing and jewelry techniques in Taxco.
These pieces are usually made of brass plated with sterling silver or solid silver, often decorated with inlaid stones such as malachite, lapis lazuli, or turquoise.
The design you see is an example of the “Aztec Feather” technique, where cut-out metal is complemented with colorful feathers protected by a clear seal or resin.
